1. The main character Riverbend of "Baghdad Burning" is not in a position to comment on American life or American society, as her only experience with it is through the military.
2. The troops in Iraq are trying to do what they are ordered to, and it is not their fault they are in Iraq.
3. Riverbend is simply malcontent with everything that is done, she does not comment often on what is good about what the troops do, and complains about everything the government in Iraq and the USA do.
